1st real winter storm is coming
It appears that we will be having a white thanksgiving. I have been trying to put all the pieces together to come up with our (my) prediction.

I am expecting the snow to start late morning as a mix of rain/sleet/snow, quickly turning to all snow. I expect it to be all snow shortly after noon time. The snow will be heavy, probably falling at a rate above 1 in./h for most of the afternoon and evening. I am expecting two inches of snow on the ground by around 3 PM. The snow will be wet and heavy and the ground is no longer frozen. As I'm writing this were still at 34° I do not believe that the ground will freeze before we have to start plowing. That will definitely cause issues on our gravel roads.

As soon as we get a plowable amount of snow I do plan on scraping down all of the paved roads. Because the gravel a soft and we cannot put the weight of the plows on the road until the freeze up I am going to let the snow accumulate more on the gravel than I do on the pavement. I would anticipate plowing the gravel roads somewheres around 4 inches of snow. If you live on or plan to travel on gravel roads this afternoon or early this evening please be prepared to encounter snow-covered and unplowed roads.

I anticipate plowing the gravel roads shortly after dinnertime and then again right after midnight. The total storm accumulations are 6-8 inches with the storm ending shortly after midnight. By timing plowing every four inches I can minimize the potential damage to our trucks and equipment as well as to our roads.

As long as the forecast stays on track I anticipate starting to clean the storm up around 2 AM which should make all roads plowed and passable by 6 AM and treated by 9 AM.

If the storm conditions change or for plan of action is going to change I will update as needed.

    Thanks and happy Thanksgiving
