Minutes of the Water Commission Meeting

July 28, 2011

Attending:  Jeff Wilder, Kurt Grassett, Sean Kerwin, Joel Chandler and Linda Coughlan, Recording Secretary

5:00 P.M. – Sean called the meeting to order.

Water Break –

Kurt reported that while DOT was replacing a culvert on Forest Road they inadvertently hit a water line. He said there had been some confusion with the water line and an old abandoned cable. As a result, after the town road crew made the repair, the gate valve is still seeping. Kurt said the only way to solve the problem is to change the valve. He said his road crew doesn't have time and there is also a pole located near the site which could cause a problem. Kurt said he had a quote on the repair plus holding the pole with a boom truck. The total for everything would be $4,557. He said he will try to bring the cost down but asked the Commissioner's for their approval to move forward. The consensus of the Commissioners was to go ahead with replacing the valve.

UV System Update-

Kurt said Ray Corbett is working on the finishing touches to the design report for the UV water system. He said DES wants Corbett to submit his report to James Malley, the UV consultant that DES uses. Kurt said he thought in a week or two he may have the report which he will forward by email to the Commissioners.

Monthly Reports for Juggernaut -

Kurt said nothing unusual had taken place during June.  He said water usage has gone up as it normally does in the summer months. The Commissioners signed off on the report.

Hydrant at the elementary school –

Jeff asked if there was any way that the hydrant could be turned on again at the school field for use during the summer recreation program. Kurt said due to the hydrant malfunctioning, it had been turned off. He said maybe they could turn it on and have the recreation director turn it off at the end of each camp day

Common Commission -

Kurt said the Common Commission would like to put 2 yard hydrants up for watering the plants on the common. The Commissioners thought this was fine.

Warrant – Westheimer –

The Commissioners signed a warrant relative to an invoice for the remaining balance on the Antrim Water Upgrade for Westheimer's who closed on their Antrim Road property.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:25 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Coughlan,

Recording Secretary
