Minutes of the Water Commission Meeting
April 21, 2011
Attending: Jeff Wilder, Kurt Grassett, Sean Kerwin, Joel Chandler and Linda Coughlan, Recording Secretary
4:00 P.M. – Sean called the meeting to order. The minutes of the March 17th meeting were approved as written.
It was decided to do the water system flushing on Saturday, May 7th. Sean said he would be there and Jeff and Joel said they would let Kurt know if they could also be there. They decided they would split the day by doing half day shifts.
Kurt said there was no update on the UV system.
Water Leak –
Kurt mentioned that water leak that had taken place in front of the old post office last week. He said this was a result of the Main Street construction from last summer. Kurt said it seems that the leaks occur 6 – 8 months after the construction work when the risers are crossed. He said he will try to have the problem addressed at the time any construction takes place.
Monthly Reports for Juggernaut -
Kurt said nothing unusual had taken place during the month. He said the water usage is running around 50,000 to 55,000 gallons per day. He said it should be running around 45,000 at this time of year and there could still be a small leak somewhere. This is after the leak by the old post office was fixed last week. The Commissioners reviewed and signed off on the monthly water system reports. Kurt said he would be away this next week and Jeff will be doing the chlorinator. Kurt said Jeff has just taken his test for his license as backup operator.
Radio Active Snow –
Kurt asked the Commissioners if they had received any calls concerning radioactive snow as a result of the failed nuclear power plants in Japan. They said they had not. They briefly discussed the Vermont Yankee power plant and how the water system would be affected if that plant ever failed.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:20 P.M.
