Minutes of the Water Commission Meeting
February 17th, 2011
Attending: Jeff Wilder, Kurt Grassett, Sean Kerwin, Joel Chandler and Linda Coughlan, Recording Secretary
4:00 P.M. – Jeff called the meeting to order. The minutes of the January 19th meeting were approved after it was noted that corrections should be made to the spelling of the names of Corbett and Malley.
The Commissioners reviewed an email from Cynthia Clevens from the state regarding the capacity of the proposed UV System.
Kurt had an agreement from James Malley for the Commissioners to review. Kurt said Malley is the UV consultant that DES uses and he was also recommended by Ray Corbett. The consulting fee is $150 an hour up to $5,000. Kurt said Malley understands the state's validation and could make recommendations on the town's UV system. If the state had to conduct an onsite validation, it could cost over $50,000. After reviewing the agreement, the Commissioners decided to have Kurt check one issue regarding an insurance certificate. Kurt said he would send an email to the Commissioners letting them know what he finds out.
Copper & Lead Rule –
Kurt said he had received an email from the state concerning the rules for testing for copper and lead. He said they are required to test every three years and that notification needs to be sent to all customers within 30 days of the test results. Kurt said the notice could be mailed out with the bills. He said the Commissioners also have to certify to DES that the test results had been mailed out.
Monthly Reports for Juggernaut -
The Commissioners reviewed and signed off on the monthly water system reports. Kurt noted that nothing unusual had occurred. He added that Jeff has been taking classes for licensing as backup operator for the water system and is almost ready to go solo. Kurt also mentioned that he is working on a procedures manual to have available at the chlorinator.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:30 P.M.
