JOINT LOSS MANAGEMENT PREVENTION SAFETY COMMITTEE

July 12th, 2010

Members present: Public Works Director, Kurt Grassett, Highway Department Rep., Jeff Wright, Fire Chief Nevan Cassidy, Bill Eva, Fire Dept. Rep, Amy Markus, Library Director, and Town Office Rep. Linda Coughlan

The meeting began at 9:00 P.M. The minutes of the June 7th meeting were approved as written.

Kurt began by welcoming Amy Markus to the meeting who was attending as the library director. He said when he had attended a Primex meeting, it was mentioned that the library should be represented in the meetings.

Kurt showed the committee the Safety Committee Policy dated 1995, a sample policy and the City of Keene's Safety Policy. He suggested a committee of three be set up to revise the existing policy using the sample and looking at Keene's policy. He said he thought Barb Caverly should be on the committee as the Town Administrator. Jeff Wright said he would be on it and the committee suggested having Nick Weeks on the committee as well.

Kurt reminded the committee that there only needs to be a member from each department and an alternate for when the full member can't attend. He said each department should have a first aid log and a training log. The first aid log should note the date that injury took place, the nature of the injury and whether the injury resulted in a loss of time or no loss of time. Kurt said the training log should note the date of any training that had taken place and who had attended. Amy will check with Barb to see what training LGC may have for library employees.

Kurt brought up the $1,600 grant available through Primex and said the committee needs to think about what the money could be used for. Nevan mentioned that the fire station should have an eye wash station. He added that the rear door on the fire stations swings outward which causes a problem opening it in winter with snow piled up.

Amy said the library does have lighted exit signs, a sprinkler system and alarms which was a plus... She also mentioned that it might be a benefit to the town to have a generator at the library so that the facility could be used as a warming center if a long term power outage ever occurred again. Kurt said that could be looked at sometime in the future.

Kurt said they could have a representative from Primex come do a walk through when Barb Caverly comes back from vacation to see what we need to do in order to be in compliance with state regulations.

It was decided to hold the next meeting in September.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9: 20 A.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Coughlan,

Secretary
