Jeff called the meeting to order at 6:30

Minutes of May 13, 2010 were approved as written.

Beach:

  • Katie has hired lifeguard staff and has made a work schedule.
  • The beach will be open through the Sunday after Old Home Day.
  • Jeff and Katie had looked at what equipment was in the beach shed. Katie mentioned that we are required to have a backboard. The current backboard was not usable. Jeff will order a new backboard and head restraint devise.
  • Katie will be meeting with Nevan to discuss policy regarding rescue/lifeguard integration at the pond.
  • Jeff reported that Katie has ordered swimsuits for the lifeguards. The rec. com. agreed to pay for ½ of the cost of the suits.
  • Dumpster is still in the parking area but will be removed.
  • Roberta reported that the canoe/kayak lesson idea was presented to the select board. It was agreed that the town's liability would be too great to allow canoes and kayaks as part of beach program.

Summer Rec.

  • Lisa has hired all staff.
  • Cindy questioned weather or not all applicants were interviewed as her son had applied and not received a call for an interview. (Jeff or Kary will discuss with Lisa).
  • Lisa and Katie have worked out a schedule for rec. kids to come to the beach in groups. Younger kids 2 days per wk. older kids 2 days/week. Lisa would like to hire an additional staff member to help with transport even if it is necessary to reducer her wages for this to happen. It was agreed that additional staff was not in the budget and it was too complicated to adjust pay rates for specific times. Jeff suggested that one of the guards could help with this task for the few hours a week that is was necessary. He will discuss with Katie.
  • Lisa reported that she needed sidewalk chalk, art supplies and dodge balls.
  • Cindy suggested that a handout could go to parents to request donations of these items.
  • Kary has suggested the rec. com. host a 3 on 3 basketball tournament in either late June or early July. The committee felt that Old Home Day would be the best time. Will suggest this to Kary.
  • Kary mentioned the Old Home Day Committee is looking for food vendors and suggested that the committee consider a food tent.

They're being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:10 pm.

Respectfully submitted:

Jeffrey Wilder
