Recommendations for
Traffic and
Safety
Short Term
- Work with Police Chief
and Selectmen to more strictly enforce existing traffic
regulations. The objective is to slow down traffic in
Hancock Village
- Encourage groups to meet
in the Town Office Building as opposed to the Daniels
Room.
- Investigate having
Library patrons park in the rear of the Library.
- Investigate having
Moeller's employees park at the Hancock Inn during off
peak periods.
- Improve road alignment
and sight distance on Rt. 137 immediately south of Main
St.
- Investigate improving
(adding spaces if possible) the parking area in the rear
of Fiddleheads.
Intermediate Term
Improvement Projects
- Investigate improving
the parking area and adding screening for adjacent
properties for the Library parking lot (for use by
Library patrons).
- Improve and expand the
parking area on the west side of the Post Office (for
public use- beach, church, etc.) Public hearing
needed.
- Add gravel to and widen
the shoulder of Rt. 137 from the Garland House to the
Fire Station for safer off road parallel parking and
walking path. Public hearing needed.
- Erect "Welcome to
Hancock - Please Drive Safely" signs at entrance to
Village

of Village

- Study alternatives to
head-in parking at the Cash Market. Study the impact of
15/20/30 minutes parking time limit in this area of Main
St
Long Term Projects
- Construct a sidewalk on
the north side of Main Street, from School Street to the
Post Office, and use material similar to the aggregate
material used at the Vestry. Construct an integrated
sidewalk on the south side on Main Street from the Flying
Bird store to the Cash Market. Add crosswalks (and
receiving areas on the opposite side of Main Street) at
the Library and Meeting House.
- Have Town assume
responsibility for plowing and sanding the sidewalk on
the north side of Main St. from School St. to the Post
Office.
