What does the Child Advocacy Center of Hillsborough County do?

The Child Advocacy Center of Hillsborough County is a nationally accredited program providing forensic interviews and coordinated support services to child victims of crime and their families.  The Child Advocacy Center of Hillsborough County opened in Nashua in 2004 and Manchester in 2007and has since provided services to more than 2500 children.

At our offices in Nashua and Manchester, we provide a neutral setting for joint investigations and interviews of children who are victims of sexual abuse, felony level physical abuse or who are witness to a violent crime such as domestic violence, homicide or suicide.  In addition, family advocacy services are provided, children and families are connected to community resources and the CAC-HC remains a support to families as the criminal case moves through the legal system. All of these services are provided free of charge to children and families.

Child Advocacy Centers provide many important benefits: allegations of sexual assaults and abuse are more thoroughly investigated, more offenders are held accountable, children are more likely to receive the medical and mental health services they need, parents are empowered to protect their children, families are supported through the legal process and the community is better educated about the problem of child abuse. The CAC-HC brings together all members of the child abuse investigative team together to one child friendly, neutral location so that one interview can be conducted and all relevant parties are represented and working together from day one of the investigation.
