Home and Garden: The Paintings and Photographs of Three
Hancock Women
A mixed-media exhibit featuring the work of three
Hancock women will open at the Daniels Room of the Hancock
Town Library on Sunday, September 19 Painters Kin Schilling
and Mary Torosian Graves and photographer Annie Graves offer
a varied display that celebrates architectural beauty and
life in the garden. The exhibit will hang through
October.
Kin Schilling's art reflects the time she spends in her
community-supported garden, where her chickens, in
particular, provide endless inspiration. Her signature
chicken studies and garden compositions reveal a lyric,
whimsical sensibility that has won her a following on both
coasts. Schilling studied oil painting at the Academia de
Belle Arte in Florence, and with Jessie Pollock and Jeanne
Duval, and her work has appeared in numerous art shows.
In Annie Graves's photography one sees a passion for the
play of light on architectural elements, the beauty of
details, and the surreal possibilities of collage. Graves, a
veteran in the publishing field, is currently working on a
photography book about the medieval villages of France.
Mary Torosian Graves' life-long love of colonial
architecture and artifacts is central to her painting. Now
in her late seventies, she designs and renovates old houses
that have been called "Peter Rabbit homes" because of their
cozy diminutive style.
The Friends of the Hancock Town Library invite the public to
meet the artists at a reception on Sunday, September 19,
from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
