Monday, February 9, 2004
7:00 pm - Library Daniels Room
Present: Dick
Gilbert, Shirley Kane, Katrina Hall, Kim Brady, Deborah
Sampson, Amy Markus, Jim Musarra, Shannon Hurley, Tom
Pisaturo, Margot Swanson and Kim Cunningham.
Minutes: Minutes of January 12 accepted as
written.
Treasurer's Report: Jim Musarra reported that our
balance is now $4302.84, up 79 cents (Granite Bank
interest!) from $4302.05 in January. We had allocated $50
for Jill Kuchino's book club, which will probably start the
week of February 16.
All of the paperwork authorizing check signing privileges
for the President and VP has been sent to Granite Bank; we
haven't heard back yet. Deborah will call after next week if
nothing has happened.
Library Director's Report: Amy has received a long
list from Walter Clark of classical CD's to order. The
periodical reading area has been rearranged and a donated
floor lamp and area rug would be welcome. All of the
software from Textsoup. org has arrived and Windows XP has
been installed on the public computer.
The Trustees have discussed replacing the rug in the Daniels
Room in September, after the book sale. The Friends could
contribute to the cost of this. Amy will research prices;
suggested sources are Peterborough Paint, Home Depot, and a
discount company in North Carolina. The touch-up painting is
quite extensive and will be hired out.
Program Committee Reports:
Art
Exhibit: A reception was held on February 8 for
Judith Oksner and Ed Mulhall which was quite well
attended. The next exhibit will be hung in 6 weeks.
Baby Book: The Friends got a thank-you note from
Fletch & Holly Wilson (she delivers the books!) and
Susan & Paul Frehner/Mann.
Foreign Language: Kim B. spoke to N Sherman who
reported Sue Ingalls is handling this on her own, so it
will be removed from future committee reports.
Handypersons: Tom suggested that a coat rack could
be put on the back of the chair closet door.
In Home Services: Amy reported that they've been
delivering books all winter, mostly to one patron who
calls in and gives book requests.
Speaker/Film: "Chocolat" will be shown February 20
at 7pm. Amy plans to make "killer brownies" and others
will contribute chocolate desserts. Hot chocolate could
be made in the large coffee urn. 16 people viewed "Mostly
Martha" and the program is definitely worth continuing.
This series will run through May, with "Eat Drink Man
Woman" being another possibility.
Katrina had an idea for a speaker in the Fall, a teacher
at Keene State who specializes in Architecture. Dick
suggested Channel 9 might be a good resource for
speakers, also the NH Humanities Council. Another idea
was Judith Moyer presenting "It Had To Be Done So I Did
It," Women on the Home Front.
Old Business:
Membership
Letter: The membership letter should ideally be sent
out by May 1. Kim B. drafted a letter which she had sent
to Tom, Jim & Deborah for review. N Sherman said
merging the Friends list with the Town list is a daunting
task so we will use the labels again like last year. Jill
Kuchinos put the letter together last year; Kim B. will
see if she still has the file and can E-mail the new
letter to the printer. Dick and Tom still plan to review
last year's responses for possible volunteers. They'll
follow up with phone calls. The Membership Committee will
meet to review the mailing list and plan other tasks on
March 1st. The Friends voted to appropriate $350 for the
membership letter costs.
Revised Articles of Agreement and Bylaws: They
have been sent to the NH Attorney General by Deborah.
Board Vacancy: Kim B. suggested Barbara
Strawbridge as a new Member at Large and will ask her if
she's interested.
New Business:
Emails:
Kim B. has typed up the email addresses so she can email
the FOL as a group.
Classes: Amy reported that Tibby Tobey will lead a
Shakespeare's Kings class Thursdays from 2 - 4pm.
Margaret Carleson's class, "American Women Writers from
1930 On" will be on Thursdays from 1 - 3pm starting March
11.
Next Meeting: There
was some debate over having meetings at night or in the
afternoon, perhaps at 4:00pm. We will try the 7:00pm time
again on April 12.
Meeting adjourned at 8:15pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Kim Cunningham
