Cavender Road is going to have the distinct honor of the highest dollar value of damage in the Town. During the night of October 8, 2005 the rising waters caused the collapse of the large culvert that crosses Ferguson Brook. The collapsed culvert stranded the three families who live on the other side of this bridge. The failure was so complete that we will end up replacing the bridge during the summer of 2006; in the meantime we have installed a Bailey bridge in place for the failed bridge. The town of Hancock was assisted by the State of NH DOT bridge crew; they supplied the Bailey bridge and an excellent crew to guide us in the installation. Below is a series of pictures of this bridge being built and launched across the open channel. By the time we are done this location will cost somewhere around $500,000 or more.

The work on this project was also aided by two local contractors and the Towns of Greenfield and Dublin . Mathewson Companies supplied materials, silt booms, rip-rap, and assistance. Landsite Corporation supplied an excavator, materials and assistance. The Town of Greenfield supplied a 10-wheel dump truck to help haul rip-rap, and the Town of Dublin supplied a 6-wheeler to help haul gravel. My thanks go to everyone involved as this was too large of a project for us to undertake on our own, and at the same time we were trying to put all the other roads back together.
